An autobiography is the history of a person's life written or told by that person. A self-portrait is a portrait of oneself done by oneself.

An autobiography and a self-portrait both give the subject a chance to show and explain who they are as a person.  They can tell their history, stories, and experiences of their life in an autobiography.  In a self-portrait, they show what they look like as a person as well as their interests.

An autobiography is expressed with words in a book or novel.  Tools used in an autobiography include paper/pencil, computer, books, and research.  A self-portrait is expressed with a camera in photographs and pictures.  Tools used in self-portraits include camera, paper/pencil, paint, pastel, etc;
